ANALOG COMPUTER
A machine that works on the basis of measuring, in which the measurement obtained are transferred into desired data is called Analog Computer. Analog Computer processes data input in a continuous form. Data (i.e. voltage, temperature, or resistance) are represented as an unbroken flow of information. It exists as waveforms (rising and falling voltage). The operation of analog computer is very fast. It is very easy to get graphical results. It offers low cost and ease in programming. Accuracy of analog computer is very less.
Analog Computers are used for scientific and engineering purposes. Analog computer, created by Vanner Bush in 1920s, was called "Differential Analyzed". It is used electric motor, gears, and other moving parts to solve equations.
For instance, the petrol pump may have an analog computer. It converts the flow of pumped petrol into measurement i.e. quantity of petrol and price.
Electric meter at home and speedometer of bikes, cars, bus, etc. are another example of analog computer.
Advantages
1. It is much cheaper in price.
2. It has ease in programming.
3. It uses a few single-purpose devices for measurement.
Disadvantages
1. It provides very less accuracy.
2. It has limited storage capability.
3. It is not suitable for business processing data.
